This months Champ camp had an amazing speaker from Duke energy Rob Caldwell . He is in charge of the Renewables Department at Duke energy in his words “the cool stuff”.

He manages 700 employees and is charge of the wind , solar and battery charge departments amongst other things . He began his presentation by say saying Duke Energy wants to reduce CO2 emissions by 40%in 2030.

He also in charge of Nuclear, electric , wind and solar . The Natural Gas element is 15% of his portfolio. The states he covers is Nirth Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Ohio. They cover 22 states which consists of a 6 Billion dollar budget.

North Carolina is the 2nd largest producer of solar energy in the US , second to only California . Solar Energy is also highly produced in New Mexico and Arizona .
Duke Energy hires sheep’s and Shepard’s among other jobs like engineers .
By 2030, the energy production will be  1/3 Nuclear, 1/3 natural Gas

10% Coal and the rest is renewable energy . The demand for Natural Gas will still be higher because it’s cheaper but renewables are cleaner . Wind Energy- drones are used to inspect blades and algorithms are used to calculate whether a turkey eagle or other birds will be flying into the wind blades . So far there has been no fatalities because of the accuracy of these calculations .
Battery Storage - will also be a well utilized energy source in the future with the emergence of electric cars and will continue to be a cheaper source with more production and time .
